Oslob Whale Shark Encounters

We are fundamentally opposed to feeding wild animals in any way that alters or changes their natural behavior. We believe the focus should be on preserving the habitat upon which these beautiful creatures depend.
It is unlikely the current practices will change and it is worthwhile to note some of the significant benefits to the surrounding communities.
- The whale sharks here are alive and not dead
- Pressure on local fisheries has been significantly reduced
- Significant and tangible economic benefit to fishing communities
- Improved marine law enforcement and oversight in the surrounding area
- Source of funding for improved integrated coastal management
As with many things in life, reality is more grey than black and white and we believe it is worthwhile to work within the reality that exists to drive outcomes that benefit both people and the creatures of the planet.
This post from National Geographic covers the topic well, NatGeo Whale shark tourism.
